About Multiple Paths Video-streaming: State of the Art

چکیده

With the best effort service presented by today’s Internet network, video streaming applications face an important challenge, especially with the aim to keep the quality perceived by the end user high enough. Several approaches had been explored in order to cope with this aspect. These approaches still suffer from many problems like scalability, complexity, and deployment. Recently, many research groups started to explore a different promising idea, in order to overcome the limitations of the existing approaches: That is to stream the video over multiple paths, instead of the classical streaming method over a single path. The objective of this report is to highlight the different existing approaches of multipath video streaming. Furthermore, it presents the elements that have to be considered regarding video streaming, from a video point of view (video compression standard, type of streaming application), and from transmission point of view (positioning according to network architecture, different multipath streaming strategies).
